San Antonio for kids
There will be about 10 families, with ~ 15 kids ranging from 1 -15 yrs
but most being boys 9-15. They're coming for a wedding but will be here for 1 week, from all parts of the country. We live in SA, but don't have kids, so we want to put together a suggestion list of things to see and do that is particularly aimed towards the kids (the adults we already know what to suggest). Also these are all cousins who don't see each other often, so the key is fun stuff where they can interact. They'll be staying downtown, next to the Alamo. They will want to stay in SA. Mexico is not that interesting for them since they've all been across the border many times elsewhere. Sea World and Fiesta Texas are also out - they either live in or go to So. Cal regularly. We're looking for things unique to Texas/San Antonio. So Far: *The Alamo & Mission Trail (but the wedding will be at one of them) *Riverwalk barge cruise *Tubing (for the older kids) on the Guadalupe River *Natural Bridge Caverns (? Have never been, is it worth it?) *Something in the Hill Country - these kids do like outdoors/hiking, but am looking for something a bit "wild west Texas" *Museums - these are all on the list for the adults, any that might be particularly fun for kids? *Zoo - not unique but have a friend who teaches kids there who could make it particularly fun ANything else to add? ANy suggestions that would appeal particularly to the younger kids? FWIW - the kids are used to hanging out with adults and doing adult things, and there will be lots of parties, just want to offer some suggestions that will be extra fun for them. Thanks! |

Visiting the Davis mtns. The old fort off I10 just west of the
escarpment. Perhaps a visit to Ft. Clark & the Alamo movie site. FFM XOR wrote: There will be about 10 families, with ~ 15 kids ranging from 1 -15 yrs but most being boys 9-15. om...

We live in SA, but don't have kids, so we want to put together a Well, it has been a long time since I have been in San Antonio, but if memory serves it is extraordinarily hot and humid there. You don't say when the wedding is but if it is anytime after May 15, chances are it's going to be hot, humid and miserable. Doing outside things would be the last thing on my list (except for water parks, float trips, and other water-adventures). Kids being kids...heck...drop them off at the mall and they will amuse themselves (and hopefuly not get in too much trouble). Otherwise, I would opt for "indoor" (read: airconditioned)) activities. Air Conditioning was INVENTED for San Antonio. Em |

*Something in the Hill Country - these kids do like outdoors/hiking,
but am looking for something a bit "wild west Texas" Take them to Enchanted Rock, near Fredericksburg. A "climb" to the top is not particularly difficult, and they'll feel a real sense of accomplishment. And definitely take them tubing on the Guadalupe. |

Will have to get them up pretty early to go there, but well worth it. And definitely take them tubing on the Guadalupe. Yeah, that one is for the grownups as much of the kids. Some *have* been tubing elsewhere, but IMO, it's not the same Thnanks |
