Hotel reservations with 2 young children
We will be traveling to various cities with 2 children - 1 and 3 years
old. Some hotels (like IBIS) seem to allow only one child per room. Novotel allows two children under the age of 16, but are quite a bit more expensive. I called Best Western, and while they seem to have lots of properties all over Europe, they had a really hard time finding any that would allow two children. They suggested I call the hotels directly to find out their policy on children. Is this really enforced for children so young? Any suggestions for budget (room with attached bathroom, 2-star, I would guess) hotels that permit 2 children to share a room with the parents? The cities we are looking at include Paris, Montpellier, Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Luxembourg, Vienna, Innsbruck and Zurich. Thx, Atri |

The cities we are looking at include Paris, Montpellier, Barcelona, Madrid, Berlin, Luxembourg, Vienna, Innsbruck and Zurich. It is to do with size of average bedrooms in Europe. Compared to the US, they are much smaller and many rooms just don't have enough space to put in two extra beds (or a bed and a cot/crib). Most hotels have 'family' rooms that have extra bed(s) already in place, and usually cost only a little more than a double/twin. Of chain hotels, Holiday Inn and Novotel usually allow (and have room for) two children/teenagers, while cheaper chains like Ibis and Campanile only have space for one extra bed. Also the pricing policy in parts of Europe is per person rather than per room, with a discount (varying amount) for children, esp in UK and Germanic countries. I suggest writing to or accessing the website of tourist office in each city and find details of hotels with family rooms. Alec |

Hotel reservations with 2 young children
We stayed in a Campanile hotel in France a couple of times in June (one day
on the way out and one on the way back) These both had 2 extra beds (one was under the main bed and one was under the shelf in the window) so we could have had 2 kids in them. As it was our 1 year old still sleeps in a cot so we took our travel cot. Only problems we 1. No where to put things like the kettle and tea and coffee bits when the window bed was in use. 2. Very little floor space when both kids were asleep. 3. We _never_ get a decent (or anything like it) nights sleep with the kids in the room. Probably due in part to the fact they've been in the car and so are not tired, and it's all very exciting etc. 4. The particular hotel in which we stayed (Vire) wasn't all that great for several; reasons. HTH Rob "Atri I" wrote in message om... If you cut down your number of stops and increased your time in each location, you could rent an apartment, conceivably for about the same cost. A centally located one or two bedroom apartment would be much more comfortable for all of you. And less traveling would also be easier on all of you. Marianne |
