Cathay Pacific Baggage Weight Restrictions
I've flown Cathay Pacific many times from JFK to Manila. At least on the JFK side, they've been rather generous with baggage weight allowances. They nominally adhere to the 50 lb limit, but, at least in the past, only charged the excess weight fee when the bag's weight got to around 65 pounds. Similarly, they're supposed to have carryon bag weight limits, but didn't enforce them. FYI, on the return trip, the CX folks in Manila strictly observed the weight restrictions, which is fine, as the trip is over and I'm on my way home. But by bribing the guard one can load up one's carryon as one sees fit. It still gets three security checks, but it can weigh as much as you want. But the last time I flew this trip was almost exactly two years ago. So, is Cathay still as generous with baggage weights from JFK, or have they begun to approach the strictness of other, lesser airlines. IIRC someone posted here a decade ago that one could bring a herd of cattle as carryon baggage on CX. Ah, the good old days.... TIA, Ed |
