Greetings

We wish to take fast ferry from Kristiansand (Norway) to Hirtshals
(Denmark) thence train to Kobenhavn.
Is reservation necessary on this ferry?
I emailed the operators but received no reply.

You shouldn´t have any problem without a reservation, since you won´t
be bringing a car.
But for peace of mind you can make reservations at:

I Don't think so if you travel on day trip . But , i think that since 1996 ,
you must book a bed or couchette for night trip . Be carrefull ! Last time i
took a ferry in Hanstholm to Hirtschals , i get to take a high price cabin
for a night trip or stay in Danemark .

As with all ferries in most countries in Europe they are licensed only
to carry a maximum number of passengers then strictly speaking yes you
need to reserve. A lot would depend on when you are travelling and of
course whether the date you wish to travel is crucial or not. Personally
if it's to fit in with other arrangements on an itinerary I would
suggest go ahead and book tickets in advance rather than risk turning up
to be told it's full up.

Probably not, but ask them again. When I took this ferry in 2001, they
were very good about replying to e-mails.

But I looked at the train schedules from Hirtsals Havn to Koebenhavn on
the German Rail site and the trip is incredible: two trains a day, but
it takes many changes and it takes from 26 to nearly 35 hours to get
there! Hopefully there is better bus service.

PS: The reason it takes so long is that you take the ferry back to
Kristiansands, then trains via Oslo and Malmo. So apparently there is
no train service from Hirtsals in Denmark to Copenhagen. Anyone else
know better?

The DB site doesn't seem to have it but http://www.dsb.dk is happy to
offer journeys of around 5.5 hours, changing at Hjørring.

Hi Larry

There are many trains e.g. Hirtshals 12.58 Kobenhavn 18.22 change at
Hjorring. See www.rejseplanen.dk

By the way, does anyone know if we can make 12.58 train from ferry
arrival at 12.30 (28 mins).

here the link to color-line, where you can book you journey online:
http://www.colorline.com/servlets/page?section=4001

If the ferry is in time and you don't have to carry a lot of baggage, wheel
chair or
kinderwagen it is possible. We did it last year and it took about 10 to 15
minutes
(but it differs when the ferry is crowded with passengers). I don't know if
the trains
are waiting.
You don't have to go to Hirtshals (main-)station, Color-Line has its own
stop in the port.

---------------
Hirtshals-Hjörring is a private railway , part of Nordjyske Jernbaner
http://www.njba.dk/
You will find hourly or more than hourly trains connecting with hourly DSB
trains to Copenhagen. Average travel time 5:40 to 6:40

So, someone should ask DB to send the data of these trains to DB...

Regards, ULF
