Driving to top of Pike's Peak in late May without a 4WD vehicle
Is it wise to drive to the summit of Pike's Peak in late May without a
4WD vehicle? I'm concerned about snow. I know the Cog railway is another, more expensive option--seems the railway runs even when the Pike's Peak highway doesn't. Checked yesterday, and even the cog railway couldn't summit due to snow drifts (made it to 12,000 feet and turned back). What will it be like 2 months later? Thanks. Mike |

Mike The area experienced a substantial snow fall with blizzard like winds. Actually snow for the year on the eastern slope is substatially off for the year. Unlike Trail Ridge Road, there is an attempt to keep the roadway open as much of the time as weather permits. Should be no problem but it is a tedious drive. s |

I believe they keep the road open as much as possible buy will close it when
it becomes too difficult to do so. If it is open, and you are willing to drive it, you should be able to make it to the top. "mike" wrote in message ... Make sure you bring clothes with that are appropriate for the weather at the
top. Always fun to watch the folks jump out of their cars with just shorts and tank tops to be greeted by wind and below freezing temperatures. "mike" wrote in message ...
