All operating systems run out of the box. Otherwise they cannot be
called an operating system.

Rubbish. If Win32 is so complete, why are people abandoning Internet
Explorer in favour of Firefox and acquiring other software to run on it?

The browser is not part of the OS. They can run whatever applications they
want.

Microsoft claim that Internet Explorer is part of their OS. Try and
uninstall it. You don't have that option.

The reason they rewrote Windows to include Internet Explorer as part of
the operating system was to get around a monopoly lawsuit.

Not all of them. Probably around 50%.

Well-behaved MS-DOS applications still run (those that actually call MS-DOS,
instead of trying to manipulate the hardware).

MS-DOS does not supply APIs for accessing hardware. All MS-DOS
applications access hardware directly.

That's one reason why Linux isn't an operating system.

Microsoft claim that Internet Explorer is part of their OS. Try and
uninstall it. You don't have that option.

The fact that you cannot uninstall something doesn't mean that it's part of
the operating system, no matter what Microsoft might say.

Which version of Windows did this?

MS-DOS does not supply APIs for accessing hardware. All MS-DOS
applications access hardware directly.

There are standard service calls for accessing the hardware.

Linux is a kernel; GNU/Linux is an operating system. How many times to
you need to have this explained to you?

Microsoft claim that Internet Explorer is part of their OS. Try and

They coded it so that parts of IE are used by Windows Explorer. It's
completely disingenuous, but that's MS for you.

The reason they rewrote Windows to include Internet Explorer as part of
the operating system was to get around a monopoly lawsuit.

XP and Vista certainly do. I'm not sure which was the first version to
do so.

Service calls, but no useful APIs.

Combining parts to simulate an operating system isn't the same as building one
from the ground up.

They coded it so that parts of IE are used by Windows Explorer.

Which parts?

XP and Vista certainly do.

In what way?

Service calls, but no useful APIs.

A service call is an API.

That is complete CRAP. The OS supply need a BSP and to be configured

If you take a Mac out of the box and plug it in, it works.

What if no one is there to observe it?

Both mine do. Actually so do the 6 PC's

However I have systems without an OS and I have OS's you have to build
to make them work on a system.
