thailand,malaysia+low budget

Hi,

We are planning to go to Thailand+the Malaysian Peninsula next summer
(july,august) for 5 weeks on low budget.
Should we carry our tent with us or shouldn't we worry about finding
accomodation and just leave it at home, wich I intent to prefer.When we went
to Costa Rica for 7 weeks we carried our tent the whole way and used it only
twice.Any info on this item would be more than welcome!

We like to visit islands ,beaches and rainforest(Taman Negara?),do not like
mass tourism and love the off the beaten track.We also love
sailing(catamaran) and scuba diving
any suggestionswich places we should visit?

Accommodation less primitive than in tent starts from 100 bahts (¨~2 ?) in
Thailand. In Malaysia accommodation is about twice as expensive. I wouldn't
bother to carry a tent unless I go to woods.

No need to carry a tent, as accomodation is cheap enough. The cheapest
scuba diving is available on Perhentian island as far as I know. Renting
a catamaran won't be cheap. In general Thailand is cheaper than
Malaysia, so you might explore the islands of Southern Thailand and
perhaps a few national parks in peninsular Malaysia.

Semporna is the jump-off point to Sipadan.

Not sure. I heard of packages for three days/two nights including dives
and equipment for RM 2000. Perhentian is a fraction of that.

Sipadan also has this exotic feature of kidnappings. Abu Sayaaf troops may
storm in anytime. Full board at one of their camps off Mindanao sounds
thrilling.
