All Australians have equal rights under law, and this is actually followed. These laws have helped close the income gap between the local Malays and the affluent Chinese community, thereby stabilising the country and creating more social harmony. But they are indeed not needed anymore Somewhat hard to believe. Even Mahatir have admitted that the policy have been a failure. It has probably efficiently reduced domestic investments in Malaysia. right and also: Why does a state have to intervene to "close an income gap" ? You do not support the economy by cutting the grass If you called it "equalizing opportunities" it may be more acceptable (and just as factual). You would prefer the violence of the sixties in Malaysia (and the recent violence in Indonesia)? the cause of that violence is islam, as most, if not all conflicts around our globe. |

It's the same cause as the minor outbreaks of violence in Europe last century (40,000,000 killed) and some of the outbreaks of violence against Indians in Africa (Uganda). Not to mention the violence against Korean immigrants in South Central Los Angeles, USA. A visible cohesive minority with strong work ethic, placing strong values on education generates visible differences in wealth. The less sucessful and less hard-working majority (with fewer connections) cries "foul". Nothing inherently to do with religion. Best regards, Spehro Pefhany -- "it's the network..." Peter Webb wrote: No asylum seekers want to stay in your country. Your GDP per capita is less than 1/10th that of Australia - its a very poor country. It is also technologically backward, had racism codified into a set of laws, and your prime minister feels he can lock up political opponents on trumped up sodomy charges. The police force is corrupt, and the culture backwards. You are a big, important country in the minds of all people who live between Thailand and Singapore, but let me assure you the rest of the world finds the sight of such a ****ty little country strutting about the world stage as if anybody gave a **** about you amusing at best. They don't even bother showing the video footage of Mahatir getting stuck into the English on English TV, because to explain the joke you would have to explain wher Malaysia actually is ... I wrote: Well, I really have nice friends in Australia, so I know that you're not representative. After reading your exploits about Malaysia, you've proved yourself an complete ignorant without any sense of decency. It's probably a pretty invariable truth that visitors who show respect for the country and people who are hosting them tend to meet with a much friendlier reception than those who show a total disregard - or worse, contempt - for the pride, sensibilites, and traditions of their hosts.
