Cockroach Chaos at 30,000 Feet! In-flight Infestation Leads to Lawsuit
Cockroach Chaos at 30,000 Feet! In-flight Infestation Leads to Lawsuit
November 18, 2011 10:45 am by Caroline Morse http://www.smartertravel.com/blogs/t...an-flight.html Forget Snakes on a Plane. Who's ready for Cockroaches in the Cabin? CNN reports that a Charlotte couple is suing AirTran for more than $100,000 after they allegedly spotted cockroaches on their flight to Houston. The two passengers took pictures and videos of the critters crawling out of air vents and baggage compartments, and claim that the flight attendants ignored the infestation, despite their complaints. According to the CNN report, the couple is suing the airline for "negligence and recklessness, infliction of emotional distress, nuisance, false imprisonment and unfair and deceptive trade practices." Yes, it's gross, a health hazard, and unsanitary that they had to sit near cockroaches on their flight, but "false imprisonment?" It's not like the airplane could pull over and let them off over a few bugs! Besides, aren't cockroaches a delicacy in some countries? Maybe AirTran was just trying to provide an in-flight snack. (Okay, maybe not.) But let's not forget: The couple could have had it much worse. Over the past few years, we've seen everything from pythons on a plane, mid-air mice raining down on passengers, scorpion stings in the sky, and an escaped cheetah in cargo. Readers, what do you think? Should this couple get a lottery-style payday for flying with bugs? |
