The main differences I find when I compare my experiences on both
lines:

1. Celebrity's "no announcements" policy is such a pleasure --
on Carnival, you will be bombarded with announcements
about bingo, shopping, games,
wet-t-shirt contests, etc. from morn' until night. There's no
escaping the constant unwanted noise.

On both my Carnival cruises, I didn't notice any more announcements
than on any of the other lines I've cruised on, including Celebrity.

2. The decor in public areas on Carnival is, to my taste, garish.
On Celebrity, it's subdued.

Agreed.

3. On Carnival, you will be pressed to buy special cake at dinner,
to buy watered down drinks on deck, and so on.
On Celebrity, these are offered, but I have
never found the sales pitch to be as pushy as it is on Carnival.

On both of my Carnival cruises, I don't remember ever being offered a
special "for a price" cake at dinner. Pressure to buy drinks on deck
happens on all ships. Haven't found Carnival to be overly pushy in this
area. In fact, on Miracle last March, I actually had to hunt down a bar
waiter for a drink. I've found the pushiest bar waiters on HAL.

I've found that I can have fun at a Holiday Inn or at the Omni. Just
don't get your expectations too high and you'll enjoy the cruise.

Exactly.

Lee, I agree. I do not notice announcements, have never been asked to buy a
cake and sometimes have to chase down a bar waiter. The Carnival decor (and
I used the word "decor" loosely) leaves much to be desired! I tend to enjoy
the ports, more than the ship anyway, so I overlook the decor. I do hate the
dining room games and the singing waiters each night...one night of singing
waiters is plenty! Otherwise, I find Carnival to be an excellent value for
the money.

Isn't kareoke Japanese for tone deaf? :-)

I belive the literal translation is "tone deaf drunk with microphone."

I have never cruised on Carnival. I am considering booking a penthouse

booking this category cabin as compared to an ocean view cabin?
