Nassau and Labadee Excursions
What shore excursions do you recommend for Nassau, Bahamas and Labadee,
Haiti. The ones from Royal Caribbean did not look very interesting. Is there anything you can recommend for the adventurous? Thanks |

They take you on a 20 mile ride down the coast. -- Charles |

I have not been to the Bahamas by cruise ship. My daughter who has said that they were inundated by taxi drivers as they got off the ship, and that it was impossible to get through. Not having had that experience I don't know. I have heard that they will want to braid your hair. But what we did in Nassau (we were on our own boat) was take a taxi to the end of the Paradise Island bridge and walk across and take pictures of the harbor from the top and then visit the big aquarium at Atlantis. There's also a casino there, but that didn't interest us, and I wouldn't think that would interest someone from a cruise ship. I have heard that there is also a ferry across, and some kind of a neat market under the bridge but I haven't done that myself. You can walk down Bay Street and there are stores there where the shopping is probably less frenetic than in the Straw Market. I found some nice Bahamian made gifts there. You can take a jitney cab back to the ship for about $1.00. Actually, they have a route they go on so they won't take you right back to the ship, but if they go down Bay Street (which is one way), they will eventually come back to the center of town on the parallel street which goes the other way. You could also contact Carolyn Wardle and see if she would do a birding or biking tour for you http://www.bahamasoutdoors.com/ We stayed at the Wardle's dock on our boat for a few days, but I have not done her tours. If that isn't a possibility, you can see and learn about the native flora of Nassau, one a visit to The Retreat, the home of the Bahamas National Trust, where you can take a self guided bird watching excursion Other possibilities (which I have not done)- for zoos, there is Ardastra Gardens http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...rdens_nassau-i and for gardens there is the Royal Victorian Gardens and Versailles Gardens http://travel.yahoo.com/p-travelguid...rdens_nassau-i You can also take a walking tour and see the Water Tower, the Queens Staircase, Fort Charlotte and Fort Fincastle, Pompey Museum, Roselawn Museum, or The Cloisters- there are a number of different tours. http://www.bahamas.com/bahamas/islan...pplierid=75484 There's also a pirate museum which some people like and some people think is just terminally cheesey. |

Do locals offer tours or rentals on that beach?

"Lakota" wrote in message ... What shore excursions do you recommend for Nassau, Bahamas and Labadee, Haiti. The ones from Royal Caribbean did not look very interesting. Is there anything you can recommend for the adventurous? Thanks I've been to Nassau several times on a cruise and there are a ton of cabbies wanting to take you on tour. If you want a tour, drag off the ship and find a cabbie wanting to add another couple people to his tour. We got the tour cheap by being the second couple in the cab. I've also taken the ferry over to Paradise but you have to walk a ways to Atlantis (which is a good tour in itself). And I'vve taken the city bus (I think it was 50 cents one way) down to Cable Beach area, which I prefer over Paradise Island...and I've taken the city bus all the way around the island just to see it. The people are friendly, but the bus is not air cond. I do not like the new straw market, but a quick walk-thru might give you an idea about it, but beware of the aggressive sellers. Of everything I've done there, minus the mediocre diving, I guess the city bus route and the cabbie tour was my favorite. |

Hire a local to take you on a half day tour of Port au Prince. It is much
lovelier than you could imagine! The palace gardens and reflecting pool are stunning, as well as the charming local villas. "Charles" wrote in message d...
