Default Port of Charleston taxis, disembarking, etc.

Hello,
As mentioned in my previous post, the wife and I will be traveling
on NCL Majesty in February. I've been researching the Charleston port
and there isn't too much information out there (at least, not what I'm
looking for). I read in another review that upon debarkation (ships
return to port) there won't be any taxis readily available to hail. Is
this correct? I find it hard to believe that with so many passengers
on board that a taxi driver wouldn't want to be there to pick up some
fares. They said that you had to call ahead to arrange for a taxi.
Can this be done from the ship? Does NCL offer any shuttles that we
could pay for to get us back to CHS airport?

My next question is logistical....our flight arrives in CHS at 12:30PM
and according to NCL we must be on the ship by 3:00 (it leaves at 4).
I assume that this will be sufficient time for us to get out of the
airport, to the cruise terminal and on the ship. Am I correct here or
am I shaving it pretty close? My own estimate is that we should be
able to be aboard by around 2:00.

Our return flight leaves CHS the same day the ship returns to port.
Our flight is at 12:30 and the ship arrives in port at around 8:00. Is
this adequate time for us to disembark and get the airport?

It looks like (when embarking) that the place where you drop off the
luggage and the passenger terminal are about 3/4 of a mile apart (down
the street). Is this an easy walk or is there a shuttle? It's
beginning to look like the port of Charleston might be a bit of a pain
compared to Tamp and Miami (the ports we've used previously).

Experience some of the Beauty that is Charleston. Arrive the day
before. Then you can go to the port in a leisurely manner. No worries
mon.

That was my original plan, but unfortunately our flight is booked using
flyer miles and those were the only flight times available.

I've never taken a ship from there but Charleston is small and the
airport is small.
Your times should be OK IF nothing is late. Charleston is flat and
everything is pretty easy walking.

We are from So California
and a few years ago we took a repositioning cruise from Montreal to Ft
Lauderdale. I think it was 13 days. What a wonderful cruise. Everything was
new to us like Montreal, Halifax, Bar Harbor and then Boston, a few weeks
after they won the world series for the first time in a million years. And
then we spent a Sunday in New York City, wow. There was Baltimore and
Norfolk, but the best port of all was Charleston. We took a bus excursion
and saw so much, The Citadel(West Point of the South) the Island from which
the first shots were fired at Fort Sumpter(sp?) to start the Civil war or
was it
the war between the states. The guide said that after the war, they didn't
have money to rebuild so the buildings we saw were 150 to 200 years old. The
place reeks of history. It was great. Sorry to digress from the subject
Don.
