Default Venice's Opera House rises from ashes

I've just seen a TV news report on the re-opening of the La Fenice Opera
House in Venice. Looks very impressive inside. Will there be a guided tour
of the interior, or is attending a performance the only way of seeing it?
And was the resident opera company performing elsewhere during restoration?

I am sure there will be guided tours, since such tours will provide
additional income.

The resident opera company has been performing in a temporary
structure called the Palafenice near the Piazale Roma and also in the
Malibran Theatre. According to La Fenice's web site, fully staged
operas will continue in these temporary venues through the Spring of
2004. I can only speculate as to the reason. Perhaps (1) some of the
stage equipment is not ready yet, or (2) the sets have already been
constructed for the other venues.

There was a very good article in the newspaper yesterday about this.
