How to spend 2/3 days in Nashville?
Eateries: The classic casual standbys are Rotier's for hamburgers;
Elliston Place Soda Shop for meat and three, both on Elliston Place (across West End from Vanderbilt University); and Loveless Cafe out of town on Hwy 100 (esp. for breakfast). Upscale non-chain restaurants are several, notably on West End Ave just west of Elliston Place. However, I can also vouch for the German restaurant at the foot of the 12th? Ave Bridge (across from downtown, near the stadium); for the sushi restaurant on Second Avenue downtown. Instead of driving all over town, however, you might just walk the Vanderbilt area of Elliston Place, West End Ave, and 21st Ave S. / Demonbreun, and find all you need in restaurants in that area. To do: Depends on what you like, of course. In winter, there are the pro hockey games, and college basketball; college baseball (my preference) begins in February. The Civil War Franklin Battlefield is at suburban Franklin. Franklin is also good for antiques, by the way. There is a very good used and antique bookstore back on Elliston Place. The Opry of course runs weekend nights. The Lower Broadway and Second Avenue areas downtown are lit up at night and full of other tourists and (mostly) country-music related sites (Ryman Auditorium, bars, and music clubs), although less so in winter. The Country Music Hall of Fame is off Division, which veers left off of Broadway west of downtown. Take a ride up and down Belle Meade Boulevard and see how the other half lives. Go on up through the woods at Percy Warner Park (straight ahead at the end of Belle Meade Blvd) up to the overlook and then back down Belle Meade; a favorite drive. |
