Default A cruise without luggage...help?

Pete,

I am surprised a shuttle would allow luggage to be transferred to the ship
without identification. On our last two cruises (since 9/11), we had to
identify our luggage after being unloaded from the bus (shuttle), and bring
it directly to the porter (standing near the bus). I guess times have
changed again.

My family recently pooled together some cash to give my sister and her
husband their first cruise ever, a trip with Royal Caribbean (RC) in
celebration of their 25th wedding anniversary. They're two days into their
cruise, still with no luggage and I'm wondering what recourse they might
have. My sister just called and relayed the following events...

The shuttle from the airport to the ship was making two stops, one to the
Radiance of the Seas (their ship), and one to the Millenium (not sure

whose
cruise line that's affiliated with). When they left the shuttle and asked
about their luggage, the driver said that it would follow them to the

ship.
Well, it got loaded on the Millenium instead. When RC found out about

their
situation, they were given $75 apiece to spend onboard for clothes (my
sister said that a pair of shorts were $65, so that obviously didn't go

very
far). RC also agreed to wash their one set of underwear nightly, free of
charge.

I'm kinda dumbfounded. We were obviously hoping this would be a trip of a
lifetime for them, but it's turning into a disaster. No bathing suits, no
formal clothes...we back at home want to help, but don't know what to
advise.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Pete

The shuttle from the airport to the ship was making two stops,

From this statement you say the fault is the shuttle driver and company, not
the cruise line, air line or the TA.

If no insurance is involved, I would recomend buy anything they NEED, not want,
and keep all reciepts. When they return to port, see a local attorney near the
port (if they had to travel to get to the ship) and start legal action aganst
the shuttle company.

And the company contracting the shuttle has no obligation?

Hi Jeff,

Maybe Pete could clarify if this was a shuttle that was arranged by
Royal Caribbean or if it was one obtained at the airport.

Best regards,
Ray

Sure, in the little room in the back, the strip poker room.

Cool Mike, I didn't realize you could put your clothing up for "bet" in
the ship's casino.

No Jeff, they don't. The coach company is responsible for the luggage until
such time it is handed over at the terminal.

Babette,

Had the procedures been followed, luggage from passengers not leaving the
shuttle would not have been delivered to the ship.

A similar thing happened to us once except our luggage was stollen from a rental
car just hours before embarcation and there was no chance of ever getting it
back. As it most certainly was not the Cruise Lines fault they really did bend
over backwards to assist us in any way that they could. They even opened the
gift shop that first afternoon just for us so my wife could select a few items
we needed. When our room steward learned what had happened he brought a huge box
of womens shoes that had been left behind by previous passengers. Seems a lot of
people don't look under the bed when packing. There may have been some that fit
but my wife declined the offer. This was a 12 day cruise and we survived just
fine.

In this case I am sure they will see their luggage again but probably not in
time to do them any good. As they may need to purchase quantities of items ask
you agent to see if you or your family can post some funds to their shipboard
account to help out. Just a thought. If Royal Caribbean knows where the luggage
is they should Air Freight it over to their ship as soon as possible.
