Default NWA: MSP-NRT-SIN

On their website, NW suggests an itinerary MSP-Tokyo-SIN. The first
segment arrives NRT 4:40 pm, leaves at 5:45 pm, that is, 1 hr 5 min. Is
this really sufficient time?

Likewise for the return, in Tokyo, they show arrival 1:45 pm departure
3:00 pm, or 1 hr 15 min. Same question.

An alternate route is NRT-PDX-MSP. Time between flights is 1 hr 50 min
in Portland. Is this enough time to clear custom and make connection?

Thanks!

Sure, do you plan to visa Japan during that time, or just walk to your
connection?

Same answer.

PDX... no problem, but, unlike NRT, you will be clearing immigration and
going back through TSA screening.

Yes. transit through NRT is usually pretty quick. A lot of the NRT-SIN
passengers will be from the MSP flight so NW will leave enough time for you
to transfer, even if that means delaying the NRT-SIN flight a little bit.

Yes. No problem. NRT transit security is not very strict (such as you can
leave your shoes on and leave your laptop in the bag).

Yes. PDX only has a few international flights per day so that will be
plenty of time.

Thanks!

Yes. NW tends to hold the plane a little. Also NRT security will call for
passengers on a soon departing plane to enter a "short" line as necessary.
This is so consistent that I often tell worried passengers in line behind
me to just wait a minute and they will get called out.

Transiting Narita is quick and efficient so do not worry. Just don't plan
to shop between NWA connections. If you end up with 15-20 spare minutes to
do so count yourself lucky. Fortunately NRT now allows liquids purchased
inside security to be taken on US bound flights so thats usually my main
stop to the gate.

Not true anymore on the laptop front. I have had to take mine (both) out
on the last few trips I made through.
