Travel from San Diego Cruise Terminal to Lax
"Mark Brader" wrote in message ... My wife and I may be going on a cruise that ends in San Diego. How can we get from the cruise ship terminal to LAX airport quickly and cheaply? Is this even possible? It is a couple of hundred miles. Kilometers. Or about 120 miles. Quickly? Fly it. In 2000, I took a cruise that ended in San Diego. It was not possible to fly anywhere "quickly" after it, because one shipload of passengers was enough to totally overwhelm the San Diego airport. The line to reach the check-in counters was so long it was hard to tell that that was what line it was -- I think we had to stand in it for something like 90 minutes. If mine was a typical experience, looking for a direct bus to LAX sounds like a much better idea. There is no direct bus from the cruise terminal to LAX. -- Mark Brader, Toronto | "My ambition is to see a saying of mine attributed | to Dorothy Parker or Mark Twain." -- Joe Fineman My text in this article is in the public domain. |

Travel from San Diego Cruise Terminal to Lax

One idea: 1. take Amtrak from San Diego (right downtown) to Anaheim 2. take a short cab ride (or maybe there is a shuttle) from Anaheim Amtrak to Anaheim Transportation Center (near Disneyland) 3. Catch an hourly Airportbus (http://www.airportbus.com) to LAX It's not quite as seamless as one would like, and you'd have to check the schedules to minimize unnecessary waiting. But you'd probably get a quicker trip by transferring in Anaheim, than by riding the train all the way to Downtown LA, then needing transportation back to LAX.... |

Greyhound has 20+ no change required runs per day, for less than $35. Amtrak has nearly half that number, for under $100. Add in a cab at the LA end (you will not need one to get to either the bus or train station in SD) and there you go. You probably will find somebody offering a shuttle bus or van from both the Amtrak station and the Greyhound station to LAX for less than a cab. Of course, SD has a good airport, and John Wayne Orange County is also nearby. Both generally match LAX prices, expecially SNA does. You might want to consider one of those and not bother. |

Travel from San Diego Cruise Terminal to Lax
San Diego's best known shuttle is Cloud 9, but they really only work
out of San Diego Airport. But I took Express Shuttle (Xpress Shuttle?) once and they mentioned that they will go anywhere at any time. They aren't as classy as Cloud 9, however. I believe that there are other shuttle companies that specialize in trips from San Diego to the Orange County and LAX airports. If they have that much luggage and can't get a connecting flight to LAX, then they can see if one of the shuttle van companies will take them, barring that, (gasp) a taxi....do prepare to shell out the cash, though ($250 or thereabouts?) |

Not sure when you were going or where you need to get back to and it may be
too late but my husband and I are flying into LAX and out of SD on our trip to California. The airline worked it out for us and we got a great price. WE are coming from a place where flights to anywhere other than Boston don't exist so if they could do it for us they should be able to do it for you. Might just ad an extra connection along the lines. We booked through a travel agent they seem to have lots of tricks up their sleeves as well. Good luck |
