Anyone from Iceland?
Hi,
I am trying to get a hotel booking in the west coast town (or village?) of Akranes for one night in November. I found a page about Hotel Barbro: http://www.randburg.com/is/barbro/ But this hot does not have a web page of its own, the telephone number given on the above page seems to have been terminated, and trying to make contact through the randburg service also failed. There's also Hotel Glymur which seems to be a little bit outside of Akranes, http://www.hotelglymur.is/ But my Icelandic is not nearly good enough to understand their web page and to be honest I haven't found a map anywhere on that site so I don't even know where that hotel actually is! The flash video on the page suggests that it must be literally in the middle of nowhere, and the english-language reviews I found on the web seem to indicate that it is mainly used by honeymooners. Any help in finding accommodation in Akranes would be greatly appreciated. If that doesn't work, then Borgarnes would also be acceptable (but not the golf hotel there). Cheers Frederik -- Frederik Ramm ## eMail ## N49°00.22' E008°24.56' |

Hotel Glymur is slightly off the circle road, halfway Hvalfjordur. Google Earth coordinates are : 64.413554, -21.628658 Readers of the Tripadvisor webforum (www.tripadvisor.com) are quite positive about the hotel. The only negative I read, was from someone who thought the nearby Aluminium plant was too dominant in the landscape. -- ME Posted by news://news.nb.nu (http://www.nb.nu) |

The Old English Lodge in Borgarnes http://www.travelnet.is/DEF/EnzkuHusin/index.html looks like a nice place to stay. Regards Gerry |
