Default Penalty charge in UK

Hello,

I've found the UK to be very "car unfriendly".
It's very difficult to find parking spaces here,
and when there are some, it is very expensive.
Furthermore, it seems that even in the middle
of the night and in a lost place where you think
your car won't bother anyone (only a very small
part of the your happens to be on a yellow line...)
you will get an expensive fine.

Anyway, I'm now used to this but I got a few fines
before understanding fully how this country works.
I'm not british and I'll leave england in a few months.
Do you think it's safe not to pay the fine or I might
be caught anyway ?

Thanks,
DG

Parking restrictions are often more to minimise traffic than
improve traffic flow, 24 hour restrictions are the minority but
certainly exist.

depends on which Council issued it, Westminster are the worse,
they send the bailiffs round if you don't pay and clamp your car
and hand you a £700 bill. Of course, if you think it was unfair
you could contest it.

They are going to find this difficult if Doc has moved to an
unspecified country

Indeed, but he said months, the cases they were reporting on the
radio were being persued quite quickly. (I owe a parking ticket
in Italy from the 60s, I went back recently and they seem to have
forgotten about it) :-)
