Default It's a Long, Long Way to Copper Canyon

This is a woeful account of a shore excursion born bad ... a day trip to
Copper Canyon in west central Mexico. See RTC Tuffy's trip report Apr 16
"HAL Trip to Copper Canyon" for a corroborating story.
At best, this extra long journey might be undertaken as a post cruise
tour and, in fact, I did this years ago after debarking in Acapulco.
Nowadays, a helicopter ascent would be the way to go for a day trip but
not by coach and train:

Pam:

I understand the cruiser's urge to see as much as possible especially if
one expects never to have the opportunity to be in the region again.
That is why so many will visit Berlin from Warnemunde and Moscow from
St. Petersburg each in a single day. I can recall talking to a young
lady on a voyage along the west coast of South America who had spent
nine days of a seventeen day cruise flying to the Galapagos and
Cuzco/Machu Picchu because that would be the only time she might be
there. The total cost of the extended shore excursions, not to mention
the last value of the days not on board, was sufficient that she could
have made a separate land tour at a later date and had better coverage.
And so it goes.

I read about this tour on Cruise Critic by a member that took it. I probably
will be signing up for the 10 cruise and taking this tour. The only problem I
see is that at first it was listed as a 18 hour or so tour. Now it is 21. Hey
in 93 I flew a Aeroflot Soviet plane to Moscow, this will be no big deal.....
OK 3-4 AM breakfast is a little early...

Fred:

If you are intent on doing the Copper Canyon cruise ship shore excursion
then you should also know that this is the only overland option you will
have as stated in the following communication:

Dear Mark:

It is impossible to go in and out in one day unless you are with the
cruise ship and their rented engine and cars.

Save your money it really is a rediculous amount to spend on something
so boring,if you do go take a book & some munchies.Frankly I doubt HAL
will foist this on their patrons again,it seems as if the previous tours
earlier were panned as well. Bea
