Good online sources for airline fares and discounts
Beyond the obvious (to me, this would include Expedia, Travelocity,
Orbitz, and airline sites), what are some good ways to find cheap overseas (from USA) airfares and discounts these days? eBay, purchase frequent flyer redemptions, Priceline.com, consolidators, search for coupons, buy just before departure, etc.? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Sigurd N 32° 48' W 117° 15' |

Try consolidators, then look for specials on the airlines web sites, then call a travel agent and see what they can find. Priceline.com should be a last resort, unless you don't mind extra connections and poor flight times. K http://www.regimechangeusa.org/ |

add www.airgorilla.com to your list. The big problem with Air Gorilla is that they charge "Tax and Govt. Fees" that commonly seem exorbitant. For example, I queried a trip from Chicago to Tallinn; Stockholm return to Chicago. The initial fa $736.00. Tax and Govt. Fees: *$105.96*. E-Tickets & Automation Fee (together): 37.93. Total ticket cost: $879.89. Considerably more than the $736.00 originally quoted. Another example: Chicago roundtrip to Prague (Air Gorilla's "Bargain Fare" (4/15 to 4/29). The initial fa $615.00 After all taxes, fees and service charges: $778.28 Orbitz (same ticket): Total airfare $736.39 Service fee $10.00 Total flight cost $746.39 No Tax and Govt. Fees. In short, I feel that Air Gorilla, at first blush, appears to be a good deal. Alas, such an impression is not born out in practice. My advice is to shop around. Happy travels. Rob |
