Before my first visit to Greece I bought amongst other guide books the Blue
Guide to Greece and read it. I also re-read Ulysses and The Iliad

Before and during my visit to Greece I intensively read about Greek
history from the Bronze age to the modern age. It was good having
Internet access in many hotels. But I found nothing about the temple of
Apollo Epicurius at Bassae (except in the UNESCO list). No idea why
UNESCO is listing it.

It is very well preserved, and was designed by the architect of the
Parthenon and Hephaiteion in Athens. Wikipedia notes:

"The temple is unusual in that it has examples of all three of the
classical orders used in ancient Greek architectu Doric, Ionic, and
Corinthian.[1] Doric columns form the peristyle while Ionic columns
support the porch and Corinthian columns feature in the interior. The
Corinthian capital is the earliest example of the order found to date.

It was relatively sparsely decorated on the exterior. Inside, however,
there was a continuous Ionic frieze showing Greeks in battle with
Amazons and the Lapiths engaged in battle with Centaurs."

Bits of it are in the British Museum in a small room near the Elgin
marbles...

The ones of Greece? I shot 2000 images (lots of panoramics, where you
combine 2-20+ images into one) and now have a backlog of 6500 images.
Will take some time until I manage to reach the Greece ones.

arranged some electrons, so they looked like this:
... When we did a similar trip to yours we visited the major sites in
week one and
... then spent the next week in the Cyclades. The total absence of
Internet cafes in
... those days made more time available for tourism. You can overdose on
ruins,

Sacrilege, Martin!

You can NEVER overdose on ruins and museums!!

I can.

You can max out on almost anything. I did after a week in Rome with a
friend who turned out to be some sort of eglisophile. Now they're like
Reagan's redwoods: "Seen one transept, seen 'em all."

My wife commented, when she saw the hill to climb to view
Karlstein, that she was "castled out". I understood - but I
still climbed the hill:-)

I must admit, I skipped past a lot of castles and museums in
later weeks that I would probably have stopped at in the
early stages. And I took photos of Neuschwanstein from the
distance as we drove past.
