Default Travel Insurance?

This is from a Travelex (a primary coverage insurer) newsletter and
also applies to others that provide primary coverage. Note: there are a
couple of states that specifically do not allow this type of
subrogation.

"Travelex Term: Primary Coverage

Definition: the Company will pay first, but reserves the right to
recover from any other insurance carrier with which you may be enrolled

Plain Language: If and when a claim needs to be filed, file first with
Travelex Insurance Services, without paying a deductible. Travelex will
then go to the traveler's other insurance providers to recover any
costs that may be covered by them."

As you can see, using a primary coverage insurer does nothing to
protect your lifetime coverage cap with the exception of those few
states where this subrogation is not allowed by law. If it's a small
$100 claim Traelex may decide that the time and effort required to
collect under the subrogation clause in the policy is not worth it. But
that amount is not a big deal in terms of a plans lifetime coverage
cap. But if it's $10,000 you know they'll go after your regular
insurer.

I just had an exceptionally good experience with Berkely Care. My
travelling companion became ill during a recent cruise and we had to
return home eight days early. I submitted the claim in mid-February
and received reimbursement for all items claimed yesterday including
all shipboard medical expenses. No questions asked. This was the
first time that we've ever had a claim so I can't compare this
experience with any other but I'll be using Berkely Care from now on
whenever possible. You can't put a price on good service!

My problem with the Berkeley? Care policies that I have read is that the
ones sent to us by travel groups generally DO NOT have a precondition
waiver, even if you book right away and provide secondary coverage. Coupled
with the fact that this is one of the most expensive travel insurance
companies out there, we have tended to go to Travelex or Travelguard.
