[491 days to regime change in the US and counting.]

Billionaire mounting anti-Bush effort

RESTON, Va., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Billionaire George Soros reportedly is
putting together a $10 million warchest to prevent U.S. President
George Bush from winning a second term.

Soros, who in 1992 made $1 billion in a single day through currency
speculation that drove down the British pound, along with a group of
philanthropists and trade unions, is mounting a campaign to unseat
Bush for what he sees as the administration's misuse of power,
Canada's National Post reported.

"You passed the U.S.A. Patriot Act without proper discussion," Soros
said in a recent interview with PBS. "Anyone who opposed it was
accused of giving aid and comfort to the terrorists. I think we've
gone off the rail in this country. Lawmakers didn't even get a copy of
the bill. They couldn't even read it before it was passed."

The Hungarian-born Soros is estimated to be worth $5 billion and has
been involved in philanthropic activities -- largely in Eastern Europe
-- since 1979.

Evidently the screams from the political left for campaign finance reform
don't apply in this instance. Not that the Democrat candidate who occupies
the Whithouse beginning in January of '05 will find himself beholding to
George Soros. (Who immigrated from a socialist country to the USA because
he could not make money in his native country).

W will lose in 2004. But it will be media and not money which decides that
election. Need some examples? When was the last time you saw or read a report
which was positive -- or even neutral -- regarding the occupation of Iraq?

Happen to read any article which does not place the blame on the outcome of
the 2000 presidentail election on the Supreme Court? Even though an all
liberal Florida Supreme Court caused the fray by deciding to ignore the
election laws as specified in that states' constitution. The media has never
accused the Florida Supreme Court of political influence in their decision
making.

W may as well start packing. I only hope that the dems come up with a
reasonable moderate as their candidate. By now even the likes of Hillary
and Ted should realize that socialism can never be anything but a failure.

Even though the original post is completely off-topic for this NG ...
Voters should throw out every congresscritter that voted for the
Patriot Act. Anyone with integrity would have voted against a
bill that their fearless leaders gave them with no time to read, let
alone properly debate.

I have heard that Gore Vidal has commented on the suspicous nature of
the bill itself. A 400 page document prepared within 2 weeks of
9-11? Some suspect it had to have been in the works well before 9-11.

I suspect there is some truth to that, but having seen Vidal on TV
recently, he strikes me as the liberal equivalent to the people
worrying about black helicopters while wearing aluminum foil hats.
Remember that there are fringe groups in the federal bureaucracy
on both sides of the Congressional aisle just champing at the bit
to implement their fascist/communist/whatever policies. Wolfowitz,
#2 man in the DOD and the primary cheerleader for the Iraq war,
had wanted to invade Iraq ever since Bush I. This was well
documented in the PBS Frontline show a few months back.
