Orient Express in the UK ?
Has anyone been on the Orient Express in the UK for more than one day while
actually sleeping on the train ? A quick look suggests that you have to stay in a hotel but it's not quite the same as sleeping in a compartment ? What are the best deals ? Thanks |

I doubt since it only covers about 60 miles A quick look suggests that you have to stay in a hotel but it's not quite the same as sleeping in a compartment ? Given that it leaves London at 11.00 AM and is in Paris by early evening how much sleeping do you expect to do ? What are the best deals ? If you have to ask you cant afford it London to Venice is around $1800 each way. Keith |

The narrow British profile prevents the continental WL cars from running in UK. |

The British loading gauge isn't narrow, it's standard - everyone else's is wide :-) One of the hazards of having invented railways first. And actually it's even worse in the south-east than in the rest of the country. There are several types of UK rolling stock which are banned from southern routes. And, as you say, special stock was always required for the Night Ferry, Golden Arrow etc. Regards Jonathan |
