Is late October/early November too late for fall colors in Northerrn Maine?
Late October is Canadian Thanksgiving, the time I usually go to the Baxter
area. There is always still jaw-dropping colour at this time in Baxter Park. One thing you should be aware of though, is that there are very strict limits on the number of people allowed in the park at any one time. People very often line up at the gate in their cars at 3AM just to get in for the day. If you want to camp there, you have to reserve in advance, and it has always been by mail only. It may have changed this year, but you'll have to check. Wildlife photographers show up in hordes that time of year looking for the perfect moose shot. They may go for days and only just see one on the other side of a lake, while you might bump right into a bull on a trail not 100 yards from where everyone else is staring out across the lake. Happened to me. -- Bob Travel and Astronomy Photos http://www3.sympatico.ca/bomo On Mon, 28 Jun 2004 21:31:39 +0100, Richard wrote: I'll be in New York on the 26th. October for two days and would like to head up afterwards to Northern Maine, Baxter etc. for beavers, moose etc. Will I be way too late for the fall colors and will it be very cold? |
