Default Crossing the USA / Canada Border with Casino winnings

I heard that Customs does'nt like you to have more than $3000-5,000 in
cash when going across the border US to Can and visa versa. What happens
when you hit a really large jackpot? Should you take the winnings home
in a check, or do the Canadian casinos even issue checks? Would my
American bank have an issue cashing or depositing a Can. check? I heard
that Customs always asks you how much money you have in the car.
What are the real cash limits imposed by Customs when crossing the
border?
Do any US banks accept deposits from a Can. ATM machine?
Thank you for any replies.

Less than $10,000 US. Actually I have never been asked that coming
into the US. I have been asked that exiting the US.

Deposits from an Can. ATM machine? How do you do that?

Thank you for any replies.

The cut off amount is $10,000. You can bring it across the border in either
direction as long as you declare it. I am sure the Canadian casino will give
you the money in an appropriate manner so that you can bring it across the
border. People are going back and forth with large sums of money won at
casinos all the time and have no trouble crossing the border. Just do it
right. I witnessed someone coming into Canada once, who on a previous
occasion tried to bring in an over amount and got caught. She insisted that
she didn't have any cash on this occasion, but when we left the border the
officers were dismantling her car after they had already searched her. You
would not be able to deposit money into an ATM if it were over $10,000
because you require the same legal papers to bring the money into either
country. This an anti crime move. Criminals smuggle drugs across the border
and return to their respective countries with cash.

There are NO limits. However, you MUST DECLARE amounts exceeding $10,000.

or do the Canadian casinos even issue checks? *

I think that casinos actually prefer to pay out large winnings with a
check.

How do you make a deposit using an ATM?................ You just
insert your card, punch in your PIN and then select deposit, put your
check in the supplied envelope and slip it in the machine when the
little slot opens up.

So, you have to declare anything over 10K? And if I have more cash than
that, then they would make out papers, I guess.
I'll ask for a check(s).

Thanks for the replies.

(No, it wasn't me with all hidden cash, or else I would know this stuff
already.)

Never traveled internationally, huh?

Just so you're aware, foreign ATMs will not accept deposits.

Another option, if the Casino pays out in cash for some reason, is to
walk into any bank in Canada and exchange the cash for a bank draft, set
of money orders, or whatever else is reasonably priced.

You still need to declare the funds, but this is somewhat safer then
cash.

Lastly you could also wire the money.

In which case it was Canadian, NOT US, customs, that questioned you.
US border agents don't care a hoot about people leaving the country,
and don't even talk to them.

Most ATMS in Canada DO accept deposits.
