Looking for Inexpensive Family Resort in NE USA
Hi there folks,
Currently I am in search of an inexpensive family oriented resort anywhere within New England, New York State, and the eastern half of Pennsylvania. We are a couple with 4 children, all under the age of 5. So, my requirements should be fairly easily satisfied. A pool is a must, the property should have some larger rooms or suites available, and I'm also looking for a package that includes a full breakfast and dinner (MAP). Since it is a challenge just taking these kids out to eat in a restaurant (as I'm sure you could imagine), obviously the couples oriented resorts are out of the question. Actually, the places that many people in the travel forums criticize as being taken over by kids running all over the place would probably be perfect for us. Unfortunately, we are on a very tight budget. So, my main requirements are the place be clean and have either an indoor or outdoor pool (both would be wonderful but not necessary) and a restaurant on premises. Even the places that some people coin as just "being a motel with a restaurant" and not a resort would be fine for us as well. However, no Time Shares please. I rather not go on vacation at all than deal with that. Thanks so much for any assistance you can provide me! Chris |

There are probably hundreds of motels in the 3-state area that would meet most of your criteria (with the exception of the meal package). I'd suggest narrowing down the area you want to stay in, and telling us more specifically what you can spend and what kind of vacation activities you enjoy (mountains, sea shore, city, museums, or whatever). Also, if you're looking for a real "resort" hotel, you might consider talking talking to a travel agent. James |

ChrisI eon I don't know about inexpensive, but the Tyler Place served us well for several years when our kids were the ages of yours. (Our 'baby' is now 37). What I can promise is that you'll find yourselves in like company. and after the first full day will likely see your kids off in the morning, and not again until dinner time. There is plenty for adults to do, such as take sailing lessons, sleep in for many extra hours, or take relaxing ride in a canoe. http://www.tylerplace.com/index.php I've only heard radio ads about this place north of Albany, but it's an indoor 6-Flags water park, and possibly somewhat less than Tyler's Place cost-wise. http://greatescapelodge.sixflagsink.com/ Another area you might look into, though it's not really resorty, is Mystic Connecticut. They have plenty of hotels, and there is a lot to do in the area that might interest kids - an aquarium, a historical Seaport, a submarine museum where they can go underwater in the original Nautilus, and look through periscopes and such. It's a nice area, and a short drive from some very nice beaches. Now that I think of it, the big casinos are nearby, and are probably offering deep discounts on just about everything. They actually offer programs for kids, hoping their parents will gamble away their money, but you don't have to gamble at all. The names are Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun. (this may not be a good idea, after I looked at the websites, but I don't know you, and you may like it) Otherwise, there are cottage communities along the coast that are geared toward families, but those are usually self-catering. You may also look around the sites for Lake George, NY and Lake Winnepesaukee, NH for something that might suit you. It's been a long time since we've been to either. Both are family-oriented. Looking for Inexpensive Family Resort in NE USA
Ok, I'm primarily interested in New England and eastern New York
state. I'm looking for a quiet country or resort type setting. Examples would include the Green Mountains of Vermont or the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I was looking at staying for a period of 4 nights and was hoping not to spend much more than $200.00 a night including both meals for 2 adults. As far as activities, swimming, going to children's museums, playgrounds, etc. With kids this little, we don't have all that many options as far as activities. Obviously skydiving, mountain climbing, biking, and so forth wouldn't work out. That is why I was just hoping to find a resort that might fit the bill, so we would have to do less traveling and going into and out of the car. Hi Keith,
Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, Tyler Place looks wonderful. I had read about it previously and did send for information on it. However, the sales person I spoke with there said there is always a waiting list to get into that place. For the next season, they fill the waiting list in September of the previous year. So, at this point they are all full for the summer season. It sounds absolutely terrific, but unfortunately is above our budget. I'll need a few more raises and maybe a promotin or 2. : ) However, I will look into your other suggestions. Thanks, Chris On Thu, 12 Feb 2009 18:55:22 -0600, "K" wrote: Chris wrote: Hi there folks, Currently I am in search of an inexpensive family oriented resort anywhere within New England, New York State, and the eastern half of Pennsylvania. Looking for Inexpensive Family Resort in NE USA
Hello,
My price range is between $150.00 to $250.00 per night, including breakfast and dinner for 2 adults. However, I really did not want to go above $900 for a 4 night trip. Thanks, Chris On Thu, 12 Feb 2009 08:44:53 -0500, Shawn Hirn wrote: In article , Chris wrote: Hi there folks, Currently I am in search of an inexpensive family oriented resort anywhere within New England, New York State, and the eastern half of Pennsylvania. What's your price range? |

It's kind of old- Catskills, family-run place. I couldn't find a website for them, but their contact information is: 6944 State Route 32 Greenville, NY 12083 (518) 966-5315 If you search the web for [balsam shade greenville] you'll find a few reviews on travel sites. -- Joe Makowiec http://makowiec.org/ Email: http://makowiec.org/contact/?Joe Usenet Improvement Project: http://improve-usenet.org/ |

Chris With 4 children under the age of 5 and wanting to stay where there is a swimming pool it seems to me you won't get much of a holiday as you will spend all your time supervising the kids to ensure they don't drown in the pool. Why not rent a cottage somewhere and spend your time lazing. Under 5s are not interested in sightseeing or anything touristy anyway. |

Today's helicopter parents insist on dragging literal infants all over the world on vacation so they can have lots of "experiences". I, for one, remember very little before Grade 1. Never mind the pain and suffering the brats invariably inflict on surrounding adults on planes, trains, restaurants, museums, etc.. |

indoor 6-Flags water park
My experience has been that water parks can be an excellent vacation destination when traveling with children under 5 years of age. Young children are often quickly bored by most things that adults find fun on vacations, but they love playing in the water, and a water park has many more water activities than you'd find at a beach or pool (waterfalls, fountains, water rides, etc).
