Default legal placard to warn motorists of police traps

Legal way to warn motorists of SHORT left- turn yellow light ticket
traps (or any other ENGINEERED police ticket trap)

Although it may be "illegal" to stand at an intersection with a sign
reading:

"WARNING! SHORT left-turn yellow light TICKET TRAP in effect!!!"

You certainly have a right to warn motorists of a dangerous left turn.
A sign which warns of the danger and HINTS or IMPLYS that enforcement
(revenue enhancement)is going on- might read:
"WARNING! Extremely DANGEROUS - SHORT left turn yellow light !!!
CAMERA MONITORED! " Do not accelerate to make the light!

(even though if there is no camera, it is not against the law to
lie !!

And where do you propose to put these signs?

Although it may be "illegal" to stand at an
intersection with a sign...

As long as you were on the sidewalk and otherwise acting in a legal
manner, I don't think you'd be breaking any laws.

A sign which warns of the danger...

Posted on public property? It would get taken down and you'd get
ticketed if they caught you. But it would be legal to post it on
private property near the intersection if you had the property owner's
permission.

In Canada, you might be charged with Obstruction of Justice.

Actually, in the United States, posting a sign on public property is
legal. I see it all the time, such as those going out of business
signs,
political posters, etc. It falls under the First Amendment.

I remember reading a history of the British motoring organization, the
AA, which used to have patrollers on motor bikes who would assist
motorists in the case of breakdowns. Warning people of speed traps had
been adjudged illegal in England and the system the AA adopted was that,
if a patroller did *not* salute an oncoming member, there was a trap
coming up. I don't know if they have patrollers now but they have
probably become pompously law-abiding :-)

political posters, etc. It falls under the First Amendment. As long as
the sign doesn't obstruct the view of the intersection or interfere with
the use of the land where they are posted, they are probably legal. Of
course, that would be for a court to decide if the government challenges
it.

There are restrictions to size and duration of placement. The street spammers,
of course, ignore the law.

It's illegal, but some people do it anyway.

In some cities they actually have one or more city employees whose
main job is to find & remove illegal signs.

But why would you want to? Isn't it desirable to slow down dangerous
drivers? The life they take could be one of your family.

But would the signs not have the effect of slowing them down ??

I think some posts in this thread might be confusing public property
laws with private property laws.

On public property, it's illegal almost everywhere for a person to
post signs (although the law is often not strictly enforced).

On private property, you can post signs as long as you have the
property owner's permission and the signs don't violate zoning
regulations or other laws.
