I would think there'd be much more fuss on a maiden voyage of a ship
like, say, the QM2. And yes, I'd break out my tux for that voyage.

You got one?

I do. Making Hubby and my T-S ratio 345-87.

I guess.

A nice, tailored tux for women would solve a lot of "formal night"
mares. I've seen them and they look great!

It better be cut in an ultra-feminine manner

Wthell does that mean?

(and no bow-tie, with a
sexy silk blouse or camisole) and hopefully involve a skirt or other
feminine lower portion, or it will scream:

"DYKE"!

My hair's not short enough.

Elle MacPherson might pull it off, but a middle aged woman whose
figure isn't what it used to be (or never was) and is tired of the
fuss of selecting different outfits is exactly the wrong type for
this.

Your opinion.

Wearing the same black beaded muu-muu every formal might would
be much more attractive.

Uh, not.

But it really isn't that hard to have several nice dressy sweaters and
blouses, which coordinate with some long skirts and such, and have
some variety for the different formal nights.

How often do you dress up like a women? You seem to offer direct
experience.

Men add variety to a
single business suit with ties. Why not get several scarves to vary
the formal attire for women is budget or packing space is an issue.

Clueless.

My sister in law wore a "lady tux" to an event a few years ago and
looked fantastic...and she's 40ish now. It CAN be done right and look
just swellegant!

I LOVE dressing up and would never turn to something like a man's tux
just because I was lazy. I think a well-cut feminine tux-style jacket
and pants (not a man's tux with a woman in it) with an appropriate
undergarment (a camisole, as you mentioned) would be sexy. I've seen
them and when done well, they look sexy and wonderfully formal while
still being a bit sassy.

And no, nothing buttoned up to the chin with a bow tie on top.

Karen, who likes black anyway for formal wear.
