Stay in Backpacker accommodation and travel around with a bus pass.
Alternatively you could buy a vehicle (old) and sell it before you leave
again.

If you're intending coming for that length of time with limited funds, you
could be at risk of not getting thru Immigration. An Asian lady with only
$500 intending to stay for 2 weeks was refused entry recently. Unless you
have a work permit or have some-one to stay with. Make sure you have a
return air ticket.

Great!
Thanks Gerrit.

couple of queries on that front.
Are Public transport as good as in Europe? I faced lot of hardships
when I was in US since the only means of transport was CAR and CAR
only..

If the public transport is no good then can you suggest me some tips on
how to get used vechiles do and donts and from where I can get used
vichile.

Any link(s) that gives me information on backpackers and rental/ suite
is welcome.
thank you.
regards,
Muks

A visa does NOT guarantee you entry. You must be able to show that you
have - i. the capacity to sustain yourself for the duration of your intended
stay. and - ii. A return or other onward ticket.

Immigration in Australia will want to be sure you are not intending to
overstay, or work (without an appropriate visa!).

I've never been asked how much coin I have on board at DIMA (I have been
asked on a long-term visa, however, and think I needed a bank letter as
well).

However, there is a bigger point to be made. IMHO, far too many backpackers
go to their destination (Australia seems particularly prone to this) with
little or no money, figuring they will make it as they go along. Unless you
have a very special talent in high demand, that means you will end up going
where you have to, not where you want to. You will spend far too much time
hanging around backpacker common rooms because you can't afford to go
anywhere or see anything. You will be beholden to temp agencies (or worse)
for kak wages. If you do not have a work permit, you will be continually at
risk of being booted out of the country (and rightly so), at your expense.

You will find yourself continually seeking the cheapest option not because
it's interesting or - more importantly - of interest to YOU, but because
it's frugal. You will spend more time worrying about whether another kiosk
has day-old buns that are five cents cheaper than observing life in the
country you are visiting.

I was truly struck by a German backpacker in Aus a few years ago who truly
epitomized what I'm trying to say. Was living on instant noodles and had to
think twice before going to the op shop to pick up a jumper (it was
midwinter). Hopped aboard a trip with me to Innamincka and Cooper's Creek
not because of a particular interest in the area, but because it was a way
to kill a week for nil expense.

For my dime, you are better off by far doing one of two things (or a
combination of them):

1. Put off your trip for a little while and have most or all of the
money you think you will need. That's not to say you need five figures and
a limitless budget (I like to travel on a shoestring myself, by choice), but
do not pitch up at Tullamarine with half a pack of fags and twenty quid;

2. Take a shorter trip, see a smaller part of the country in more detail,
and enjoy your time and experience.
