Default Event-dresscode "no timberlands"

Hi!

It might be a strange question, but being new to the US, i came upon
an event, music for about 20-30years-old, where the dresscode states
"casual, no timberlands".

What is meant here, since timberland seems to me as a brand making
various kinds of cloths or shoes. Does it mean the type of timberland,
or is timberland some special brand in any kind?

It probably means no hiking boots. Timberland is a major manufacturer of
outdoor footwear.

As vague as that is, it's certainly better than "Dress Code Enforced"
and having to ask "What is it?" "What's what?" "What's the dress
code?" "What do you mean?" "I mean, what code of dress is it that
you're enforcing?" "What?" "What's the code?" "I don't understand your
question. The dress code is the dress code." "Of course, but what is
it?" "**** off!"

I understand "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service".

I attend many dance events. On Saturday nights, I appear in Black Tie
even though most of the dancers wear denim pants and cotton shirts
with writing on them. It is rare that some other person dresses as
well as I and, fortunately, the wimmin love that I do! But the, too,
don't. Maybe more men would if more women did.

My thirteen year old daughter just mentioned that a friend was wearing
"Timberlands." I asked her ,"Oh you mean hiking boots?" She just gave
me a look and said it had to do with punks (e.g. punk music...) Might
be work asking your question on something like alt.punk ....
