Default Living in Austin, Texas

Hi,

I recently moved to Austin, Texas for 12 months. I have visited some cities
(Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Fredericksburg,
Corpus Christy, Port Aransas) in Texas; but I'm very much interested in
nature (like state parks, preserves); eg. trails, camping.
What can you recommend ?
Preferably in the proximity of Austin (meaning maximum a 3 hour drive), and
with good scenery, and/or the chance to view some wildlife (no hunting
though).
I'm always making plans for the weekends, so I need ideas! ;-)

Thanks,

Jorn

Go to the Texas state park web page: http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/park/
We camp a lot in parks and most are full of deer and wildlife.
Also, check out the Aransas Nat'l Seashore - a mecca for birders. Aranssas
is also an interesting town with lots to do and fresh shrimp off the boats.
