Day pack?
....arriving in Mexico City in early March, followed by Oaxaca, Puerto
Escondido, Taxco... We have never been to Mexico. What might some of you seasoned travelers recommend for a day pack used for daily traveling, hiking, touring? Which type is more secure, less 'touristy', etc? Backpack, belt pack, OTHER? Neither? Thanks in advance for any advice. kz |

Thanks in advance for any advice. daypack are ubiquitos, even in developing nations. ones which don't look new or have expensive name brand logos boldly displayed might have some advantage i suppose. if you look like an REI advert, well.... no pack is secure, although some have lockable zippers. thieves are known to use razor to slice open bottoms. my best advice, is don't take it off when in questionable locations (bus stations, crowded streets, etc.). i like carrying a briefcase/stachel shoulder bag. i put the strap over my head and slide the pack to my front, where I can drape an arm over it casually, but where I can also SEE the pack. Of course, it's not as great for hiking... |

Backpack, belt pack, OTHER? Neither? Belt packs look pretty goofy. If you bring a backpack, make sure you wear it in the front while riding crowded Metro trains in Mexico City. miguel -- Hundreds of travel photos from around the world: http://travel.u.nu/ |

However I have found one good use for a fanny pack is when you also are carrying either a backpack or a hybrid travel pack with shoulder straps. Since carrying a daypack in your hand is a pain, a 500-750ci fanny pack can serve as a 'daypack' which can be worn on the front when humping the larger 'suitcase' backpack. a |
