Paris Syndrome
According to reports from Reuters, the French newspaper Le Journal Du
Dimanche, and Chosun Ilbo, Japanese Tourists to Paris are developing mental problems in large numbers, and it has been dubbed "Paris Syndrome". Japanese tourists, who had been led to have unrealistic expectations of Paris swarming with doll-eyed blonde princes and princesses riding glass carriages, suffer from disillusionment and trauma. At least 10 Japanese tourists a year show up at the Japanese embassy in Paris with severe psychological symptoms, including a woman who believed that microwave ovens are trying to control her thoughts, or a man who thought he is Louis XIV. The unfriendly residents of Paris, dirty streets, and poor customer service at stores cause trauma for Japanese tourists, who are accustomed to having store clerks kiss up to them. Store clerks typically ignore customers, while pickpockets victimize many tourists. One Japanese woman was quoted as saying that she expected Paris to be full of beautiful and elegant people. But upon arrival, Parisians turned out to be everything opposite of Japanese. http://today.reuters.co.jp/news/arti...N-233173-1.xml http://japanese.chosun.com/site/data...025000043.html |
