Default Accra a Ripoff?

What's the real story on cost of lodging in Accra? Rest of Ghana?
I see alot of very high prices for rooms for a 3rd world country
on the web. Yet the Lonely Planet says they're cheap,$10-20.
Hoteliers are complaining to the government that they're prices
are too high due to Gov. taxes; fees. Is it difficult to find
cheap rooms in Accra or rest of Country. Bad enough the airfare
there is around a grand, to wind up paying $50 a night or more for
a room.

Cheap rooms are easy to find, and Lonely Planet's prices are pretty close to
reality. But if you try to book from overseas - especially on the web! -
you're going to get screwed. Cheap places don't have the wherewithal to deal
with hotel brokers; only the ripoff joints and fancy upscale hotels can make
that worthwhile.

Just deal with it when you get there.
