Default Restrictions on hand carried bags?

I have just been informed that on the cruise we'll be taking in a week,

the same restrictions on hand carried luggage as in airplane check-in
also applies. That means no lotion or liquid in your hand carried
bags.

Now I may be a little logic impaired. But on an airplane you have no
access to your checked-bags until you get off. On a cruise ship you'd
have access to all your luggage once you get to the cabin. So what
difference does it make whether your carry liquid in your checked bags
or your hand-carried bags?

Has any of your encountered similar restrictions for cruises?

Hi Kurt,

That is an excellent point because the cruise lines would be notifying
travel agents and their clients with many e-mails, faxes, and press
releases if they were making a change of this sort.

Best regards,

Hi Gang,

Having cruised on RCCL/RCI two weeks ago from Miami, and CCL last week
from Miami as well....no such restrictions were in place.

While I brought no booze aboard, I had bottled water as well as
Gatorade in my carry-on on both. (as well as assorted personal care
items..).

..
Not a eye was raised or batted.
