Champagne comes from France.

From Champagne to be more precise. Actually the province has a common border
line with Belgium in North, so perhaps Belgium can take a little bit of
credit.

A man by her side? HAH! the last man Magda had next to her died of
fright when she switched on the light. Now Magda relies on inanimate
objects for company.

If he's by your side, you're doing it wrong.

Does the EU allow it to be called "champagne" is it comes from Belgium?

It's already new year in most other spots in the world (including home). So
I'm sitting here in the US, watching a Clint Eastwood movie, drinking Miller
High Life, with a hot water bottle on my back.

I assume the EU and it's "allowances" have little to do with this. Russians
consume a lot of "Russian champagne" (as they do "Russian cognac"). If you
asked be grape is grape regardless of the habitat. Traditional vodka
producers have regretted the "loose definition" of vodka in some countries.
