could I travel for.
Just looking for a ballpark figure so I know how soon I can't quit my
mindnumbing job?!!

How long would I need to gain an appreciation and take in these
countries at a leisurely pace...Is three months long enough?

Shanghai and HK are two very high cost cities. Your money will go a
lot further in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam & Cambodia. Also have you
considered flight cost from Shanghai to HK to Thailand?
