only because itunes asked if you wanted to delete them and you said
yes. you apparently did not migrate the old system to the new computer,
so itunes saw it as a different computer.

It WAS migrated by someone much more capable than I, but I did something
wrong on the backup attempt.

And what happened to your backups of the iTunes data from your older
machine? What happened to the older computer itself, with it's data?

I'm using it for foto editing and newsgroups not in Newstap on the iPad. It
couldn't restore the app data because the new machine had dumped them and
it restored them empty.

I love how s/he/it blame Yosemite for s/he/it's ****up.

It's remarkable how defensive the iCrowd gets about catastrophes.

Catastrophes caused by idiocy that are blamed on the computer, yes.

I've lost things and it's awful.

So have I. I once erased many TB of data with amispalced space in a
backup script. While transfering another chunk of TB of data from a
failing drive to a backup, both drives went tits up. It's not fun.

Since I'm a computer engineer, I have the knowledge to indulge my
obsession with backups. For (computer) laymen, the loss of data varies
from a PITA to life-changing crisis.

Right, but with proper backups you should never lose much data at all.

In this case there is a backup, but E-wassit seems to not want to talk
about why s/he/it is not using it and also claims it doesn't contain any
data, only apps. Which is absurd.

I've explained it. And Erilar is an Old Norse use-name.

so what? do another full restore, this time from your actual backup,
which will wipe the emptiness and restore your apps and data.

You or your helper clicked "Erase".

Apparently I did it without realizing it. The tech who did the computer
transfer didn't have the iPad itself.

he didn't need the ipad and he failed at properly migrating your
computer. fire him.

Enilar, I've known nospam for may years and have had many happy
battles with him. There is one thing I can say: he knows what he is
talking about.

Brink? Disaster?

Hell dude, you only lost the list of which still-there online posts you
read and your Angry Bird best scores...

I think the question was something about authenticating the new computer.

You remind me of my sister. She'll never own up and take responsibility.
I don't know what she's afraid of; probably just being considered
incompetent. One thing I do know, though, is that when she does take the
blame on herself everything opens up between us; as opposed to when
she's beating about the bush like a silly, irresponsible little girl,
when my attitude toward her hardens because she's become untrustworthy.

All the info on off-line maps, everything in Pages, and lots more. At least
I won't be wasting time playing games. Not Angry Birds, though. I got tired
of that long ago.
