Dozens have been killed in Iranian plane crash

Eighty passengers were reported killed today after a plane caught fire
when it landed in northeast Iran today, Iranian state television said.

The fire began after a tyre exploded as the aircraft was landing in
Mashhad.
The flight, by Iran Airtour, which is affiliated to Iran's national
air carrier, originated in Bandar Abbas, in the south of the country.
Initial reports said there were 147 people on board.

None of the crew members on board the Russian made TU-154 died in the
fire, and other passengers were evacuated, state TV reported, adding
that investigators were now on the scene.

Mashhad, located 1,000 km (620 miles) northeast of Tehran, is visited
by 12 million people annually on pilgrimage to its Shia Islamic
shrines.
