are B&B's ALWAYS couples-only booking?

travel by myself, looked at 2 B & B's in Ottawa and when i attempted to
book online, the only option was to charge me for 2 beds in a bedroom.


Is it impossible for someone to stay by himself and pay only for 1 bed
in a B & B?

Depends on the B&B. In the USA and Canada, most of them are booked by the
room (like a hotel). If you want a shared room, you should look for hostels.

I can't speak for the rest of the United States, but, last April I stayed by
myself for 2 weeks in a bed and breakfast in New Orleans and don't recall
having to pay any extra. Since most bed and breakfast establishiments are
privately owned, I suppose each sets its own guidelines. KM

Would you midf if I asked which NOLA B&B it was, or even the price? I
go to the Quarter each year, for progressively longer trips each time.
B&B's I've seen on line usually cost less per night than the larger
hotels, plus the advantage of having a kitchinette and a sitting room.

I've stayed at several B&B in Ft. Lauderdale that charge by the room as
well as a few boutique hotels.

Cuppla times, m'first visit to Europe, the other bed was rented without
either my knowledge or consent. On one occasion (in Katarini, Greece),
the other robbed me resulting in a delightful adventure and,
incidentally, the return of my stuff.

I hadn't realized that I had rented only a bed in a room with two.
The other bed was later rented to another who left, with my money and
some of my things, before I woke.

I told the owner who called the police of Katerini, a small town on the
slopes of Mount Atlas. Well, what a treat that turned out to be!

The Chief of Police took me to the mayor who not only gave me his
personal apology but also took me to dinner. That evening was the one
when the whole town walks 'round and 'round the main square. I was
smiled upon and greeted by virtually everyone there.

That night at the hotel was gratis.

The next morning, the Chief of Police came to me to return many of my
things including a tie pin that I hadn't realized had been taken. I was
also given the sum of money that I had reported stolen.

It seems the thief was a not-very-smart Greek sailor who was very easy
for the authorities to find.

By the way, did I ever mention that I did actually get up to Alcatraz from
San Jose earlier this year? Bright sunny day; a very pleasant walk in the
park and accompanying harbour cruise. What's all this "fog" I keep hearing
about? ;-)
