Default car rental insurance HELP

Help please. I have made a res for my wife and son for their trip to
Melbourne with Hertz. They have a deductable of $2750 that they will
offset for a shocking amount (I think they told me $34 day). My
goodness, I called Thrifty and a couple of others and they were the
same. What is going on here? the insurance would be more than the
rental itself.

some CC's offer insurance on rental cars ... if you have one, use it to pay
for the rental and in case of accident your CC will cover the excess ...

Check your CC carefully. Some will only cover for a certain period of time
meaning you'll have to split your rental (instead of a 40 day rental, 20 + 1
without a car + 19, for example), others only for certain vehicles, others
yet again only in certain areas. All exclude rental violations (some
companies even don't allow 4WD off the bitumen!!) so check those carefully
as well.

Another factor: in the event of a collision, you will generally be charged
the excess regardless of fault and then have to get it out of the card which
can take so long as to be worthless. As an example, I got a bill from Hertz
for alleged damage, duly charged to my CC. After two months, I got it back
from Amex. It wasn't mine, something Hertz ultimately admitted (without
apology or explanation), and credited it back with the same amount in AUD.
The exchange had changed in the meantime meaning I was still out $$. It
took a bit of lung power to convince Amex that I had fought their battle for
them (since although I was ultimately covered by their policy, I didn't want
a false claim on my record) and the least they could do was cover the
difference.

Try this

10613[/url] you can get insured against this potential charge for
considerably less than the $34/day they quote you
