Default Number 46 is booked and beach information is needed

Just booked a cruise for July 17 on the Carnival Miracle out of NYC to
Canaveral and the Bahamas. I am in desperate need of beach information.
Does anyone know of a:

1. Nice beach close to Cape Canaveral, where we can park ourselves for
the day. What I mean by nice beach is one where there is good swimming
and chair/unbrella rental available (we are in Canaveral for 12 hours).

2. Nice beach in Nassau, other than the one at the Atlantis, which I
know we will not be able to use (we are in Nassau for 12 hours).

3. Ditto for Freeport (we are only there from 7:00AM to 1:00PM).

Thanks in advance to anyone who has any information about beaches in
these spots.

Not much of an itinerary. At least the ship's a good fit for you.

Three full sea days, and hopefully some beautiful weather on the way
down and up should be perfect. Kind of strange that you should say the
ship is "a good fit for" me. You've never been on this ship, or any in
its class. More importantly, you've never met me. In reality, Tom,
there are many ships that are a good fit for me. That is why I cruise
so often on a variety of ships and lines.

You've said in the past that you like the Spirit class ships.

I might pick a ship I wasn't crazy about to do a special itinerary, but if
the itinerary isn't that good, I'd want a ship that I really liked.

Since you like the Spirit class ships, it can make up for a potentially weak
itinerary.

That's all I was referring to. I may have never met you, but we can learn
quite a bit about each other when we talk every day.

Port Cnaveral is in city of Cape Canaveral... okay, it's a little city.
Entire eastern edge of it is a beach.

Take a taxi either to Jetty Park... which is in the port area and has
various facilities.

Or grab a taxi to "the Pier". restaurants, shops renatal stuff
available there.

Beach access is available at just about every street but those 2 spots
probably have what you're looking for.

Thanks much, this is just the kind of information I was looking for.

Sorry Tom, I misinterpreted your comment. I certainly agree about the
itinerary, but I am looking forward to the sea days going down and
returning.

I see that you have gotten an answer on Canaveral which is good
because I'm probably the last person to give advice on beaches. But I
find the question interesting, so I've done some research and am going
to answer anyway.

2. Nice beach in Nassau, other than the one at the Atlantis, which I
know we will not be able to use (we are in Nassau for 12 hours).

Why do you think you will not be able to use the Atlantis beach?
Atlantis is not very far from the cruise ship dock, and Paradise
Island has beaches other than Atlantis.

Feel free to dispute this information, which I've gotten on the
internet, filtered by what I know about Nassau where I've been for
several days to a week three times.

From http://www.cruisecritic.com/ports/ne...cfm?ID=3#sec2t

Where You're Docked
Cruise ships are at Prince George Wharf, in the heart of Nassau.

When my daughter took a cruise to Nassau, she said that there was such
a crowd of taxi drivers, vendors, and people wanting to give you a
tour or braid your hair etc at the cruise ship pier that they couldn't
fight their way through to go to Paradise Island. But if you can walk
a little bit, you could walk down Bay Street (or take a jitney bus for
about $1) to the end of the big bridges across the harbor. You can
see them from everywhere. Then you can walk across the bridges, or
take the ferry across from the cay under the bridge.

Ferries: A ferry service operates from Prince George Wharf to neighboring Paradise Island; the fare is a reasonable $3 each way. However, despite boasts of its 10-minute travel time -- and indeed, it only takes ten minutes to get there once you are underway -- be forewarned: the actual journey takes an hour (boats typically do not leave every 30 minutes as advertised). If you are time-crunched, this is not a good way to get to or from Paradise Island (if time is an issue, take a taxi. Fares are $4 per person each way - cabs wait until they fill up with at least six folks - and $1 for the bridge toll).

Another caveat: each ferry features a "tour guide" who will offer a sometimes interesting, sometimes time-wasting insight on Nassau and the Bahamas. Passengers are expected to ante-up a tip.

I'm not a beach person, but the beaches that I've seen recommended are

Best Beach for the Dedicated Beach Bum: Head for Arawak Cay, a ten-minute taxi ride from Nassau; it's famed for its pastel-colored shacks, selling all sorts of local delicacies. It's to the west of the cruise ship pier.

Best Beach for Active Types (and best for a half-day visit): The beach on Paradise Island where you can find all manner of watersports rentals and eateries.
Cabbage Beach (near Atlantis) was named one of the 10 most best in the world.

Cruisers from other ships (other than Disney or Royal Caribbean) don't
have beach access, but
can purchase day passes ($25 for adults, $19 for children 4-12, free for under 4) from the Temple of The Moon booth, located in the casino at the Royal Tower. From Prince George Dock, you can take a ferry ride to the Paradise Island Ferry Terminal, then walk less than five minutes to the resort. Alternatively, a taxi journey--about $5 to $10 apiece--brings you to the front door of the Royal Tower in about 10 minutes.

Second choice? Cable Beach, along which is lined a strip of resorts (and all the usual beach amenities).

1.5 miles long. - west of the cruise ship dock by a couple of miles -
farther than Arawak I think.

Cable Beach Hotels allow you to use their facilities at NO CHARGE, (they expect you to have lunch or drink when you use there facilities). Atlantis beach can be access by a public pathway next to the Sheraton. Lighthouse Beach is public, and so is any other strip of beach you'd like to stroll.

The cruise ship may tell you bad stories about the beaches because
they want you to take the Blue Lagoon tour. But ALL BEACHES IN THE
BAHAMAS ARE PUBLIC, and you can access all of them, at some point.

Bahama beaches are some of the most pristine, powder like beaches in
the world. They are not rocky, sandy or anything else. Pure powder.

3. Ditto for Freeport (we are only there from 7:00AM to 1:00PM).

I can't figure out where the ship actually docks on Grand Bahama -
Freeport which is an industrial city in the middle of the island with
no beaches, or Lucaya. If you dock in Lucaya, then you are set
because Lucaya has lots of beach area. All the beaches are public. I
don't know for sure what amenities are there, but there probably are
some.

If you actually come in to Freeport, I'm pretty sure you can get a
jitney bus (again about $1 - just remember when you go to a bus
shelter that they drive on the left so you go to the correct side of
the road) to Lucaya from Freeport. Lucaya is east of Freeport.

West End also has really nice beaches, but I think it will take too
long to get there from Freeport - let alone Lucaya.
