... Do not even worry for a moment about Samburu! It is (in our opinion) the best reserve for the variety and certainty of viewing wildlife. (Asterisk here).. but there are actually 2 reserves! Buffalo Springs on the south side of the river, and Samburu on the north side. And you must pay separate park fees ($30 p.p. per day) when you are in either, or both. If you visit both on the same day, then you have $60 p.p in park fees. Dave, Personally I've never been asked to pay the double fee when crossing the bridge. Perhaps the rangers do apply different criteria for groups and for self-driving visitors with only 2-3 pax in a vehicle. Anyway weep I haven't been to Kenya for the last three years /weep, so things might have changed. In any case I'd find it more reasonable to issue a single ticket even for a higher price for the whole Samburu complex, or at least for Samburu/Buffalo, if the reason is to share the income between Isiolo and Samburu districts. I wouldn't mind so much paying more for what this complex has to offer, but being charged several times in what is roughly a single reserve is quite off-putting. Best, Javier |

Dave, unfortunately I don't remember precisely how and how much I paid last year, but I'll keep an eye on the prices and ask at the bridge. I still have doubts that you pay twice. They used to have different rules. Moreover, the bridge is not manned during large parts of the day, certainly not early in the morning. Didn't they have a rule that, if you paid for one day on one side, you didn't have to pay for that same day on the other? Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |
