You'll almost certainly have to remove the laptop from its bag and it'll have to be scanned separately. -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach Time for tea. |

I don't have a clue where you are, but around _here_ it's not a problem. However, you have to take the laptop out of its case/bag and put it in a separate container at security. -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate -www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "If people think God is interesting, the onus is on them to show that there is anything there to talk about. You'll almost certainly have to remove the laptop from its bag and it'll have to be scanned separately. Have also a glimpse at this http://www.schneier.com/crypto-gram-0805.html#3 Extracts : Last month a US court ruled that border agents can search your laptop, or any other electronic device, when you're entering the country. They can take your computer and download its entire contents, or keep it for several days. Customs and Border Patrol has not published any rules regarding this practice, and I and others have written a letter to Congress urging it to investigate and regulate this practice. But the US is not alone. |

Bringing a lap top on a plane
The airline is no help, the airport or the security organisation is.

What's normal procedure for ths? TIA From where to where? The others are correct if you are flying to, from or within the USA, but not necessarily in other countries. Some will require you to remove it and scan it separately, some have no problem if you leave it in the bag. Some (Indira Ghandi Airport) can give you a hard time if you have it outside the bag as a second carry-on; although the guy in front of me there seemed to get it through after a discussion. No doubt a tip appeared and the rules were probably different the next day. And some airlines in the same airport have different rules. The best advice I can offer is to contact the airline you are travelling with and ask for a specific answer for the trip you are flying on.
