Are there any areas near San Francisco that would be suitable?

Keep in mind many visitors to San Francisco are surprised that the city
isn't as warm as they thought it would be.

There's a quote from Mark Twain that goes something like "The coldest
winter I ever saw was the summer I spent in San Francisco."

Some googling should yield you the monthly highs and lows.

You might be happier further south in San Diego.

San Diego has Sea World (orcas and other water creatures), Balboa Park
(site of an early 20th century world exposition, now museums, arboreta,
playgrounds, tourists, and general good fun), Old Town and the Mission
(more or less where California began), the Gaslight District (where the
Americanization of San Diego began), the zoo (formerly widely respected;
I don't know about nowadays) and the Wild Animal Park (a subsection of
the zoo located out of town, where wild animals roam the hills and
tourists ride viewing trams or walk the trails which, fortunately, are
outside the animal compounds). Also warm ocean waters.
