Hi will be at Yosemite at about September 23.
Any suggestions for family (5ppl) accommodations for say 2 nights?
Don't mind average - as long as clean and comfortable beds.

Tough order if you don't already have reservations. Best shot is one of the
places outside the park - El Portal, Fish Camp, Mariposa, or Oakhurst.

If you camp, there are national forest campgrounds east of Tioga Pass and a
KOA at Midpines. Whatever you do, don't sleep in or next to your vehicle
except in designated campgrounds - the park rangers conduct checks in the
wee hours throughout the park and roust folks doing that...even in the
parking lots.

Having a quick look at http://www.yosemitepark.com/Accommodations.aspx looks
like your options *in* the park are limited to a cabin with no bathroom or
various kinds of tent.

How far out are El Portal, Fish Camp, Mariposa, or Oakhurst.?

Close enough for driving in and having plenty of time for a look around.
Is there a fee for entering the park?
Thanks

Yes, but you'll have to pay that whether you stay in the park or not.

It's a fee per car, not per person.

Yes, but you'll have to pay that whether you stay in the park or not.

It's a fee per car, not per person.

The entrance fee is $20 per car and good for seven days.

Of course, there are various passes as noted in the cited reference.

El Portal is just outside the park boundary on hwy 140 and about 20 minutes
or so from the valley floor; Mariposa is about an hour away from the valley
floor on hwy 140.

Fish Camp is just outside the park boundary on hwy 41 and about one hour
from the valley floor; Oakhurst is about an hour and a quarter or so from
the valley floor on hwy 41.

Clarification - my comment about not sleeping in/near your vehicle applies
within the national park boundaries. Folks - especially just east of the
Tioga Pass entrance - sleep in/near their vehicles on the roadside in the
national forest land just outside the park, as you will see for yourself
should you drive by very late or very early in the day.

Thanks - we won't be carside sleepers!

Also thanks for your comprehensive responses

Way expensive is Awani Hotel. But there is Yosemite Lodge. About like a
Motel 6 but more expensive. Tent Cabins in Camp Curry. These are in the
Valley. Above the Valley is Tuolomme Lodge, but is nearer the eastern
entrance to the park. Other than the waterfalls in the valley, is a
prettier area.

Prettier than the Yosemite Valley, ah... no (even without the waterfalls).

Still very scenic (but not as nice as the valley).

Another option would be to stay in Groveland or Buck Meadows on Highway
120. Buck Meadows in about hour drive from the Valley floor. Groveland
is about 15 minutes farther west.

Highway 120 is the main route between the San Francisco Bay Area and
Yosemite National Park.
