Default Hotels, B&B in Montreal?

What's the best time of year to get lower hotel rates in Montreal? When
is low season? What activities are there in Winter? Are sidewalks kept
clean of snow? Or is it still advisable to wear some kind of snow boot
or rubbers? I like to take photographs of interesting bridges,
buildings and people. Museums and nightlife, some bargain shopping and
good restaurants are also of interest. If there's also a great heated
indoor pool at the hotel or nearby public pool that can be relaxing and
fun after a long day of sightseeing.

Sidewalks are shovelled in Montreal but the city does get a lot of snow and
they run out of places to put it. There is a lot of slush on the sidewalks
and street crossings, so boots are a good idea.
