Strange experience on teh Carnival Legend
We don't have to worry about the cabin steward on sea days as I sleep in and
tell them to just take care of the cleaning at dinnertime. Working nights for the last 15 years makes it's tough to change your body clock while on vacation. My wife just asks for clean towels for before dinner showers and we're good to go. Bill "Dick Goldhaber" wrote in message ... Charles, I haven't been on a ship since last October but I have never been on a ship where our cabin steward or table waiter changed during the cruise. We like the idea that we can tell our cabin steward from the get go when we go to breakfast so that he can make up the cabin while we are gone, and we like the idea that our table waiter and his assistant knows what we like as well. -- DG in Cherry Hill, NJ ospam "Charles" wrote in message d... In article , Tom & Linda wrote: I hope that concept doesn't spread industry wide I hope not. You could see how the concept might save the cruise line money. An experienced steward can probably finish their cabins faster and finish their work early while less experienced or less skilled stewards take the whole alloted work time. If there are no assigned cabins, and a "factory system" they can might make do with less stewards. -- Charles |

Royal Caribbean's Mariner of the Seas had a GREAT system. Our steward,
had his own "phone". We called his number once when he happened to be right ourside our cabin. I asked if he could come do something, he said "sure", and literally a second later, I heard a knock on the door. We called a few times because our daughter was sick, and he always answered immediatly. She started with Ren.. then after they folded she went to Island Cruises (RCL's joint venture with the UK company)... she jumped for joy when Carnival hired her. Her brother, a waiter, has been with Crystal since the line started. You can't judge all cabin attendants.. just by one. Babette |

Strange experience on teh Carnival Legend
On every one of the cruises I've been on (Carnival, Princess, Royal Caribbean,
Orient), in the last 4 years, the cabin steward has always introduced themselves to me, shortly after boarding. Every one of them also asked if we needed additional pillows, towels, robes, etc, and confirmed our dining times... Never had a problem. Maybe I was just lucky? I believe most of the major cruise lines now automatically tip, although
they aren't always pooled. I know on Carnival you can add to your tipped amount by visiting the purser's/information desk, and it will go directly to the person. I heard reports that Princess pools their tips, and that when they began auto-tipping, service slipped noticeably. This was about a year before Carnival purchased P&O/Princess. As I understand it, tips are commonly pooled on smaller cruise lines, and Greek based cruise lines. Tom Smith "Tom & Linda" wrote in message et... "Thomas Smith" -NO-SPAM wrote in message ... "Tom & Linda" wrote in message et... That has a lot of opportunity for major inconsistency. I hope that concept doesn't spread industry wide. I prefer the same waiter with traditional dining all week, and I would prefer the same cabin steward all week. --Tom Rest assured, Carnival still has assigned cabin stewards. It wouldn't work with their tipping and promotion system. It might be possible on ships that pool their tips such as Princess and possibly Celebrity. Tom Smith It's probably more possible on ships where tips are automatically put on the passengers account. Like Princess and Carnival. And NCL. Celebrity doesn't automatically put the tips on your account. Nor are tips pooled - from what people on Celebrity told us - at least that's what they said. --Tom |

Howie indicated the higher the cabin (C11) the more services are
expected? LOL I guess i'm in trouble. Legend in Nov. Cabin A1. Just only one person. I probably will never see the steward. I hope it is cleaned? Live today...tomorrow may never come. |

Mixed bag there! Inside cabins, if that's what you have, are very very
dark and it's easy to sleep late. Sleeping late can result in your cabin not getting cleaned. Then again, maybe not. Draw no conclusions, and expect the best!
